L1 resumes service between Florida and Plaça de Sants this Saturday

The intervention has focused especially between Santa Eulàlia and Mercat Nou, where TMB has renewed sections of track, track equipment, drainage and signalling systems. The aim is to reduce incidents and improve the reliability of one of the network's most used lines.

In total, around 2.1 kilometres of infrastructure have been renewed. Some 1,580 metres correspond to the main track and another 510 to the area around the historic Santa Eulàlia workshop, which has also undergone extensive modernisation.

There, the five inspection-pit tracks, the rail access to the workshop and the overhead line have been renewed, with the latter changing from a conventional system to a rigid one. The work will streamline maintenance tasks and improve the safety of trains entering and leaving.

Passengers should also notice changes during the journey. Part of the new track incorporates solutions designed to reduce vibrations, while a new expansion device protects the rails from temperature changes on the outdoor section between Santa Eulàlia and Mercat Nou.

The closure had made it necessary to use the L9 Sud, L10 Sud and L5, as well as connections with FGC, Rodalies and a special bus service. With Saturday's reopening, these alternatives will no longer be needed to cover the affected section.

The total investment has been 11.5 million euros, and around 170 people worked every day during the works, with continuous activity over 24 hours. TMB states that the work was completed within the planned timetable.

The change will be especially visible to people travelling between L’Hospitalet, Sants and central Barcelona. After six weeks of changes and alternative journeys, the red line regains its full route just as the city begins to leave August behind and prepares for the mass return to routine.
