Line 7 reopens this Saturday between Gregorio Marañón y Pitis

The closure began on 2 August and affected 13 stations. During this period, those who needed to complete the journey had to use the special EMT SE7 service, which was free and had stops close to the closed stations.

The works have been used to renew track through electric welding and advance the modernisation of the signalling system. They are works intended to reduce incidents and prepare the line for more regular and reliable operation.

The August action forms part of a much wider project between Estadio Metropolitano and Pitis. The Community of Madrid is renewing signalling along around 20 kilometres of tunnel and 24 stations, with an investment of about 33.6 million euros.

The new system will make it possible to better control temporary speed restrictions, reduce intervals between trains and introduce automatic door opening. The software in some of the trains operating on the line will also be updated, with the aim of gaining capacity and responding better to breakdowns.

For users, the immediate effect will be much simpler: the need to go up to street level and change to a bus between Gregorio Marañón and Pitis will disappear. Stations such as Guzmán el Bueno, Islas Filipinas, Francos Rodríguez, Valdezarza, Peñagrande and Arroyofresno will return to normal operation.

The reopening also comes at a particularly appropriate time. Madrid is starting to regain activity after August, and September will once again bring more journeys for work, university and schools, so restoring this section before the mass return to routine will ease pressure on other means of transport.

From this Saturday, the usual scene will return to L7 platforms: trains once again running through the entire western section of the line and a special bus that is no longer needed. After almost a month of transfers, the change will be noticeable from the first weekend journey.
