More trains on L5 to ease morning overcrowding

With this reinforcement, the service frequency will fall to as little as 2 minutes and 24 seconds at peak times. The measure responds to the increase in passengers recorded in recent months, partly because of the pressure on Rodalies, which has shifted more users towards the metro.

The addition of train number 38 has been possible thanks to technical improvements made in 2024, which make it possible to increase operating capacity on the section between Cornellà and Collblanc. It is not the first adjustment: another train was added at the end of last year to strengthen the line.

Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) says that this change is part of a broader plan to adapt the network to new demand. Staffing has also been increased at key stations to manage passenger flows better.

Crowded platforms and carriages first thing in the morning are part of the routine for thousands of people. Cutting a few seconds from the wait can make a difference on tight journeys, especially on a line that connects key areas of the city and its metropolitan area. Looking ahead to the coming months, TMB is already considering further improvements on other lines such as the L1.
