Metro Line 9 closure paralyses the section between Sainz de Baranda and Avenida de América at rush hour
Morning in Madrid began with delays and haste for thousands of passengers. A technical fault on Metro Line 9 interrupted service between Sainz de Baranda and Avenida de América during the rush hour, affecting one of the network's most used axes.
The incident was recorded at 6:03, when much of the city was already on the move. For around an hour and a half, trains did not run on this section, forcing users to reorganise their journeys and creating greater pressure on other lines and on surface transport.
Metro de Madrid itself reported that the cause was technical and that the resolution would not be immediate, increasing uncertainty among those trying to get to work or class on time.
Service was restored at around 7:30, progressively returning normality to stations and platforms. Even so, the impact was felt for much of the morning, with accumulated delays and greater passenger numbers at key points on the network.
Line 9 is one of the essential connections between the east and north of the capital, linking residential neighbourhoods with areas of economic and educational activity. Any incident on this section has a direct effect on daily mobility, especially first thing in the morning, when Madrid's rhythm depends on everything working without interruption.
