Line 9B returns this Friday between Rivas and Arganda after summer works

The works have focused on the track superstructure, with the renewal of expansion devices and the installation of a check rail. The work aims to improve the safety and reliability of the service on one of the sections most used by people travelling daily between the south-east of the region and Madrid.

The closure affected the route between Rivas Vaciamadrid and Arganda del Rey, including La Poveda station. During the works, the Consorcio Regional de Transportes provided the special SE9 bus service to cover journeys between the affected stations.

The reopening will restore the line's usual route and remove the road transfer that has lengthened many Arganda residents' journeys over these weeks. The Community chose late July and the first half of August to carry out the work, taking advantage of the usual summer drop in passenger numbers.

The intervention on 9B forms part of a wider programme of works that is keeping several points on the Metro network affected during August. On line 7, the section between Gregorio Marañón and Pitis remains closed until 28 August, while work continues on line 6 between Argüelles and Ciudad Universitaria until early September.

Work also continues on line 10, where construction affects the area around Cuzco and the section between Nuevos Ministerios and Plaza de Castilla. Summer has thus become the period chosen to concentrate some of the network's most important maintenance and modernisation interventions.

For Rivas and, especially, for Arganda and La Poveda, this Friday will mean recovering one of their main public-transport links with Madrid. After weeks of replacement buses and additional transfers, trains will once again run along the full section and journeys will return to their usual operation.
