The Luna de Sangre will tint the sky over Madrid this September
One of the most anticipated nights for astronomy enthusiasts is about to arrive. On 7 September 2025, Madrid will witness a total lunar eclipse that will bathe the sky in the characteristic reddish hue known as Luna de Sangre.
The phenomenon will begin with a partial eclipse at 18:27, but the main event will take place at 19:31, when the satellite enters totality. For almost an hour and a half, until 20:53, the Moon will turn red, reaching its peak at 20:11. Unlike solar eclipses, this celestial show does not require special glasses or telescopes: just look up to enjoy it in all its splendour.
To make the experience even more magical, the capital offers special spots for observing the night sky. Parks such as Enrique Tierno Galván, Casa de Campo, or the iconic Cerro del Tío Pío are ideal options within the city. Those who prefer to get away from the city lights will find some of the best natural viewpoints at Silla de Felipe II, Valdesquí, or Buitrago de Lozoya to watch the Moon turn red.
