The Moon steals the spotlight in Madrid with the arrival of the Superluna del Esturión

The phenomenon will be visible from the night of Friday 8 August, but will reach its culmination on Saturday 9 at 09:55, when our satellite is at its closest point to Earth. At that moment, its apparent size will be 7% larger and its brightness will increase by up to 15% compared with an ordinary full moon. To appreciate it without interference, the ideal approach is to move away from urban lighting and seek clear skies on the outskirts of the city. Although simply looking towards the horizon will be enough to enjoy the spectacle, binoculars and telescopes will reveal details such as lunar craters and seas with particular clarity. This Supermoon arrives just before another August classic: the Perseid meteor shower. The popular “Tears of Saint Lawrence” will peak between 11 and 13 August, with maximum activity expected on the night of the 12th. The second week of the month thus promises a double astronomical spectacle that will bring a touch of magic to Madrid's nights.
