The Mossos building in Poblenou is transformed for more than 1,000 officers
Barcelona is preparing a key change in its security network. The Generalitat is driving a complete renovation of the Mossos d'Esquadra headquarters in Sant Martí, which will become the city's largest police complex.
The building, located between Àvila and Bolívia streets in the heart of the Poblenou area, will be completely renovated to meet current needs. The investment exceeds 25 million euros and will make it possible to bring together more than 1,000 professionals in a single space.
The new headquarters will serve as the city’s reference Basic Police Area. It will house key units such as criminal investigation, public order and public assistance, as well as training spaces and an auditorium.
The works, planned to continue until 2028, seek to modernise a building that already played an important role during the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games, but had become obsolete for the current volume of activity.
The project also provides for the transfer of the police data centre to the Egara complex, which will optimise operations and free up space at the Sant Martí headquarters.
Beyond the investment, the refurbishment aims to ease congestion at other police stations and improve coordination in a city under high urban and tourist pressure.
The building, with an industrial past, forms part of Sant Martí’s transformation in recent years. The intervention links that memory to a new public function, reinforcing the district’s role in Barcelona’s structure.
