The Odyssey comes to Matadero with virtual reality and 360° projections
Nave 16 at Matadero Madrid will become ancient Greece from 18 September with The Odyssey, the immersive journey. The new exhibition invites visitors to accompany Ulysses on his return to Ithaca through virtual reality, physical sets and large projections that will completely surround them.
The route brings together five experiences under a single ticket: stage recreations, an interactive metaverse, multisensory virtual reality, a holographic installation and a room with immersive 360-degree images. The visit will last approximately 90 minutes.
Homer's voice will serve as a guide through Mycenaean civilisation, the Trojan War and the hero's great trials. Visitors will be able to enter episodes such as the encounter with Polyphemus, the song of the sirens, the descent into Hades and the dangerous passage between Scylla and Charybdis.
The core of the exhibition will consist of eight immersive short films, each devoted to a different adventure of Ulysses. Each episode will have its own aesthetic, atmosphere and soundtrack, so that the journey will not be presented as one continuous film.
The experience is designed for all audiences and is recommended for ages five and over. All content will be available in both Spanish and English, from the explanations and interactive rooms to the main film and the holographic installation.
Tickets are already on sale from €13.90. Advance sales offer a 10% discount until 15 August, although prices may vary according to the date, time and type of session chosen.
The exhibition will be open Tuesday to Thursday and Sundays from 10:00 to 20:00. On Fridays and Saturdays it will extend its opening hours until 21:00, while it will remain closed on Mondays.
The arrival of The Odyssey strengthens Matadero's programme for the return from the holidays. Amid the industrial architecture of Arganzuela and the new technologies of Nave 16, one of literature's oldest stories will find a very different way to return to Madrid.
