Plaça de les Roquetes is transformed: more accessible, greener and with renewed play areas
Refurbishment work has begun on Plaça de les Roquetes to improve accessibility, shaded areas, play facilities and street furniture, with an expected duration of nine months.
On Monday 12 January, the long-awaited redevelopment of plaça de les Roquetes, in Nou Barris, began. The project, promoted by the Pla de Barris, seeks to revitalise this focal point of community life, known for its panoramic views towards the sea, and turn it into a more welcoming and functional space for residents.
The works, which will last nine months, include repairing water leaks in the underground car park. To do so, the changes in level across the square will be readjusted, the water-collection system will be redesigned and the concrete elements affected by damp will be treated. In addition, the paving will be replaced to prevent future leaks.
At surface level, the intervention will keep the central space clear, as it is widely used for community activities. The children's play area will be enlarged and renewed, and will also have a larger covered area. The design has been agreed with local residents and organisations.
The square will gain new shaded areas thanks to the installation of an additional pergola in the southern area, adding to the two already in place. More benches, chairs and bins will also be added to improve users' comfort. The total investment planned for the redevelopment amounts to 1,940,000 euros.
