Barcelona reinvents La Rambla: theatre, literature and Port Vell itineraries in March 2025
From 12 March to 4 April 2026, the free (Re)discover La Rambla routes return, offering a different way to see, perceive and get to know Barcelona's most important thoroughfare.
La Rambla is much more than a tourist thoroughfare. It is memory, popular culture and the setting for some of the most significant episodes in Barcelona's history. That idea underpins the project ‘La Rambla, a new model of urban tourism’, promoted by Amics de La Rambla, which offers a fresh perspective on this iconic promenade.
Under the slogan (Re)discover La Rambla, the organisation invites residents and visitors to see it through different eyes, to walk along it without rushing and with a new perspective, moving beyond clichés and focusing on its heritage, literature and lesser-known stories.
From 12 March to 4 April 2026, the initiative offers 19 free walking tours to reconnect with this central space in Barcelona. The activities form part of a broader programme running between December 2023 and December 2027. All tours are free, but require advance registration because places are limited.
(Re)discover La Rambla: a new narrative for the most iconic promenade
The main aim is to build an alternative to a purely commercial narrative. (Re)discover La Rambla offers themed itineraries exploring historic fires, literature, football, theatre and the transformation of the port. Each tour provides a better understanding of how this promenade has been the setting for conflicts, celebrations and cultural movements.
Among these tours, ‘Barcelona in flames: La Rambla’ stands out, scheduled for 12 March at 11:00 in Catalan. Led by Manuel Marina from the CultRuta team, the visit starts at 10 Carrer d’Estruc. Drawing on archives and chronicles, it examines fires that affected iconic buildings, media coverage of the flames and the rumours they generated. It is an unusual itinerary combining urban history and collective memory.
