Sala Apolo will launch an open-air cinema with DJs and music documentaries this summer

The project is called CineClub 113 and will begin in July at La (3), the venue's open-air space, located on Nou de la Rambla. The idea is simple, but well thought out for the city: screen films related to music and then continue with DJ sessions inspired by each documentary.

The full programme has not yet been announced, although Apolo and the In-Edit festival — with whom they are organising the series — say that there will be nine films and that the final selection will be announced in June. Everything points to a mix of titles linked to contemporary music culture, underground scenes and iconic figures.

Beyond cinema, the format seeks something very recognisable in Barcelona during the summer: hybrid plans where people do not just go to “watch something”, but also stay on, socialise and extend the night. Especially in a city where cultural terraces and open-air events gain increasing importance when the heat arrives.

The area around Paral·lel fits that idea rather well. Among historic venues, bars and concerts, the area has spent years trying to recover part of its nocturnal cultural identity, and proposals like this help reinforce that more creative and less tourist-oriented profile.

The initiative also coincides with the launch of the new Apolo Award for Best Music Video, another sign of how the venue is trying to expand its role within Barcelona's cultural scene beyond traditional concerts.

Apolo ceased long ago to be only a nightclub or concert venue. For many people in Barcelona, it functions almost as a fixed point in the city's cultural life, a place capable of mixing generations, styles and formats without losing that somewhat chaotic and authentic feeling that Paral·lel still retains.

And in summer, when Barcelona completely changes pace and the nights grow longer, an open-air cinema with music and DJs sounds exactly like the kind of plan that ends up filling up without too much effort.
