Madrid's travel card can now be used from an Android phone

Since 15 January, users of Madrid's travel pass can validate their ticket directly from their mobile phone. The digitalisation of the system allows those with an Android device with NFC to forget the physical card and travel throughout the region using only their phone.

For now, the option is available for 30-day monthly passes and ten-trip tickets (Metrobús). iOS users will have to wait until 2026 to access this feature, although the physical card remains valid for everyone.

To activate the digital pass, it is essential to have Android 9.0 or later and NFC technology. The process is simple: just download the “Mi tarjeta transporte” app from Google Play, hold the physical card to the phone and follow the steps to transfer the pass to Google Wallet.

Once the transfer is complete, the physical card stops working and the pass will be active only on the phone. From the app, users can check their balance, manage tickets and top up journeys at any time.

To travel, simply hold the phone to the gate or validator. In this way, Madrid takes another step towards digital mobility and simplifies the experience for travellers.
