This Saturday, 17 January, Torre Glòries experienced a historic day as it hosted the first edition of the Barcelona Tower Running Challenge. The iconic skyscraper was transformed into a competition venue where 400 participants, divided between amateur and professional runners, faced a challenge as demanding as it was spectacular.
The challenge was clear: climb 34 floors, overcome 686 steps and reach a height of 125 metres in the shortest possible time. The time trial tested the runners' physical and mental endurance. Beyond the stopwatch, the reward was an unparalleled view of Barcelona from the top of the tower.
Interest in the race was immediate: all 400 places sold out in just 10 days. Runners from as many as 30 different nationalities took part, from enthusiasts looking for a different start to the year to professional athletes seeking points for the world ranking.
In the men's elite category, Ivan Vuletic prevailed with a time of 3 minutes and 4 seconds, closely followed by Mateusz Marunowski, who arrived five seconds later. Klaus Hausleitner completed the podium. In the women's race, Tea Faber was fastest with 3 minutes and 51 seconds, while Kamila Chomanicova and Annemarie Wilhelm took second and third place respectively.
In the amateur category, Nil Puchol dominated the climb with a time of three minutes and twenty-seven seconds. Jordi Andreu and Javier Sánchez completed the men's podium. In the women's race, Anna Voronina crossed the finish line in five minutes and 33 seconds, followed by Leticia Tamarit and Anna Pérez Mir.
