Sabadell’s streets smell of Christmas: the City Council cleans them with cinnamon scent
Sabadell has decided that urban cleaning can also appeal to the sense of smell.
With the arrival of the festive season, the City Council has launched a special technique for cleaning the streets in the centre: water mixed with deodorising products and a cinnamon fragrance that fills the air.
Every day, municipal workers spray this essence on the streets near areas where Christmas activities are concentrated, such as markets, shows, and shopping zones. The aim is twofold: to reinforce public hygiene and, at the same time, to create a more pleasant atmosphere for residents and visitors during weeks when the city sees more people than usual.
The initiative is part of a pilot project by the council to improve the perception of urban spaces during major events. The cinnamon fragrance, associated with this time of year, was chosen for its deodorising properties and its recognisable character, which immediately evokes the Christmas spirit.
According to the City Council, this is a temporary measure linked to the festive calendar and is being evaluated daily. In the meantime, walking through some streets of Sabadell has become a different experience: alongside the lights and decorations, the scent also signals that Christmas is already underway.
