Get free comics in Madrid this 9 May: participating bookshops
Madrid recovers one of those plans that transform the atmosphere of several neighbourhoods for a day. This Saturday 9 May, Free Comic Book Day returns, a day on which different bookshops will hand out copies free of charge while stocks last.
The initiative turns familiar spaces on the cultural circuit into lively meeting points. Bookshops such as Akira Cómics, Tomos y Grapas and Elektra Cómic will take part with titles specially prepared for the occasion.
Among the comics available will be superhero, humour, fantasy and graphic-novel offerings. The idea is not only to give away copies, but also to attract new readers and strengthen the link between bookshops and the neighbourhood.
The event also changes the way people move around the city. Many make the most of the day to discover specialist shops, stroll between neighbourhoods and join an atmosphere that blends culture, collecting and urban leisure.
