C3 and C4 trains return to normal after the fault
Services on the C3 and C4 lines of Cercanías Madrid have gradually returned to normal after a signalling fault forced a suspension between Villaverde Bajo and San Cristóbal Industrial. The incident disrupted the journeys of thousands of passengers for much of the morning.
While the problem lasted, the C4 line limited some of its routes and trains ended their journeys earlier than usual. The C3 also had to alter its service, forcing many users to look for alternative routes to reach their destinations.
The incident particularly affected those travelling from the south of the region towards Madrid during the working day. Stations such as Villaverde, San Cristóbal and Atocha saw longer waits and more passengers watching for updates to the service.
Once the fault had been repaired, Adif began a gradual restoration of services. Trains progressively returned to their usual timetables and routes until the operation of both lines was normalised.
Although the service was restored, minor delays continued for a time as a result of reorganising train movements and the build-up of trains after several hours of incidents.
The C3 and C4 lines are two of the most heavily used in the Cercanías network and connect Madrid with municipalities such as Aranjuez, Getafe, Parla, Colmenar Viejo and Alcobendas-San Sebastián de los Reyes. Any incident on this corridor has an immediate effect on thousands of daily journeys.
The fault once again highlights the importance of this rail axis for metropolitan mobility. Every morning, thousands of workers, students and travellers rely on these lines to access the centre of the capital and connect with the rest of the transport network.
Services are now operating normally and platforms have regained their usual rhythm. After several hours of uncertainty, users are once again making their everyday journeys with the service restored.
