Recent rains have improved the state of the reservoirs

Following the recent rainfall, Catalonia's reservoirs show a slight improvement in their water levels, although the drought persists. At the end of March, the reservoirs were in a critical condition, but they have now reached 27% of capacity, a notable increase from the 18.14% before the rains. On 29 April, the rainiest day since November 2021 was recorded, contributing significantly to this recovery.

Sau reservoir, particularly affected, has seen a slight recovery from an alarming 2.2% of its capacity before the rains. Despite this improvement, it is still possible to walk to the submerged church, an indication that water levels remain low.

Although the reservoirs now exceed 165 cubic hectometres, the threshold allowing restrictions to be considered for reduction under the Special Drought Plan, the Generalitat has not changed the phase from exceptionality to the alert phase. With summer approaching and forecasts of high temperatures, water levels are likely to fall again. The Government spokesperson, Patricia Plaja, has recalled that the drought is not over yet, maintaining caution in water management.
