Sun, terraces and first swims: this is how Easter is experienced in Barcelona
Barcelona’s coastline is full of people during an Easter holiday marked by sunshine and an almost summery atmosphere. Beaches such as Barceloneta and Bogatell have seen large crowds since early morning, with residents and tourists taking advantage of the good weather.
The seafront promenade has been one of the busiest spots, with a constant flow of pedestrians, cyclists and runners. Many have opted for simple plans: walking, sitting in the sun or enjoying the sea without leaving the city.
Temperatures close to 20 degrees have encouraged even the boldest to swim. Although the water remains cold, at around 15 degrees, there has been no shortage of people taking to the sea or doing water sports.
The coastal terraces have enjoyed one of their first major days of the season. Since mid-morning, bars and restaurants have been full, largely driven by visitors looking for sun and atmosphere.
The good weather has changed the city’s usual rhythm during these public holidays. Areas such as the seafront become the centre of activity, concentrating outdoor plans.
For many, this start to Holy Week marks the symbolic beginning of beach season, in a city where the weather can transform plans in a matter of hours.
