Lavapiés recovers its flamenco pulse with the Peña Flamenca anniversary
Madrid adds a new cultural event with the first anniversary of Peña Flamenca de Lavapiés, which will be held on 26 March at Teatro del Barrio. The event brings together established artists and young prospects for a night dedicated to singing, dance and guitar.
Driven by Jacobo Rivero, the peña has managed in just one year to establish a space where flamenco once again forms part of neighbourhood daily life. The initiative recovers the tradition and brings it closer to new audiences in the very centre of the city.
The anniversary programme connects with the flamenco history of Lavapiés, a neighbourhood that has been a reference point for figures such as Enrique Morente and Camarón de la Isla.
