Leganés enjoys three days of festivities with Café Quijano, Demarco and LOS40
Leganés faces the most intense weekend of its Nuestra Señora de Butarque patron-saint festivities. From this Friday 14 until Sunday 16 August, free concerts, community meals, children’s activities and traditional celebrations will fill the Recinto Ferial, Plaza Mayor, Plaza de España and the streets of the town centre.
Friday night will feature Café Quijano as its main attraction, performing at 23:00 at the Recinto Ferial. At the same time, Plaza de España will host cover music with Metropop and, from one in the morning, another Peñas Party with DJ Pulpo and DJ Tello.
Tradition will also carry special weight during the day. At 21:07, the transfer of the Virgen de Butarque will begin from its hermitage, accompanied by fireworks, before its reception on the Universidad Carlos III campus.
Saturday will begin with proposals for younger children. At 12:00 there will be a foam party in Plaza Mayor and, two hours later, Paseo de Colón will host the traditional community food distribution organised with the collaboration of the peñas.
The night will once again concentrate much of the activity. At 22:00, a peñas parade through the town centre will begin and, an hour later, Demarco Flamenco will perform at the Recinto Ferial. At the same time, Plaza de España will host Fiesta Afrodise de Pedro Rivas before another Peñas Party in the early hours.
Saturday the 15th will also be the central day of the events in honour of the patron saint. The solemn procession of Nuestra Señora de Butarque will leave the parish of San Salvador at 21:00 and travel through the streets of Leganés before giving way to the night programme.
Sunday will be designed especially to close the festivities as a family. From 12:00 there will be water castles in Plaza Mayor and, at 19:30, La Nueva Cubierta will host the Humor Amarillo competition between peñas.
The major musical finale will arrive at 21:00 with LOS40 Urban Party XXL at the Recinto Ferial. Dalex, Wolfine, Kidd Voodoo, Robi, Ptazeta, Kristina and Mar Lucas are among the artists on a night that will end near midnight with the traditional final firecracker display on Paseo de Colón.
With three almost consecutive days of activities, Leganés turns this August bank-holiday weekend into one of the main festive focal points in southern Madrid. There is no need to concentrate on a single venue: this weekend the celebration will be spread across squares, streets and open spaces, with plans ranging from a community meal to some of the most crowded free concerts of the festivities.
