Barcelona expands its free water-play areas to 18
This summer Barcelona has 18 children’s water-play areas spread across nine districts. The spaces open every day from 10:00 to 20:00 and offer families a free alternative for coping with the hottest hours without leaving the city.
The network has added nine new facilities during 2026 and now reaches almost the entire urban map. Access is free, no booking is required and it is intended mainly for children aged five and over, always under the supervision of an adult.
The games are activated by push buttons that start short water cycles. The system prevents the jets from operating continuously and makes it possible to control consumption without giving up a refreshing play area.
Ciutat Vella has spaces in Carme Simó and les Caramelles squares. In Eixample there is one on Mistral avenue, while Les Corts has the facility in Sant Joan de Déu gardens, next to L’Illa Diagonal.
Sarrià-Sant Gervasi offers water games in Joan Reventós park. In Sants-Montjuïc they are in Joan Pelegrí square and Justa Freire gardens, while Horta-Guinardó adds Baix Guinardó gardens and les Rieres d’Horta park.
Nou Barris has spaces in Harry Walker and Canyelles square. Sant Andreu has four facilities, located in Antoni Santiburcio park, Bon Pastor, Canòdrom de Meridiana and Antiga Casa de l’Aigua.
Sant Martí completes the map with the games in Lolita Torrentó square, Maresme square and les Glòries park. Gràcia is the only district that does not yet have a facility of this kind.
It is compulsory to wear footwear and animals are not permitted in the play areas. It is also advisable to bring a change of clothes, sun protection and drinking water, especially during the middle hours of the day.
The network will continue growing in 2027 with five new spaces in Sant Martí, Ciutat Vella and Nou Barris. This summer, the scene is already repeated in squares and parks: jets activated by a button, soaked children and families finding some relief without having to pay an entrance fee.
