The funniest animals of the year: these are the winning images from the Nikon Comedy Wildlife Awards 2025
Bears with a mischievous expression, frogs in an affectionate pose and gorillas that seem to have come from a dance floor. Humour once again found its way into wildlife photography with the 2025 edition of the Nikon Comedy Wildlife Awards, a competition that celebrates the most unexpected—and amusing—side of the animal world.
This year's grand prize went to photographer Mark Meth-Cohn, author of High Five, an image capturing a gorilla in mid-motion, striking a pose reminiscent of an impromptu dance. The photograph won over the jury with its spontaneity and for showing that, even in the wild, there is room for laughter.
The list of winners doesn't end there. Among the awarded images are unusual scenes such as birds caught in impossible positions, amphibians that seem to be hugging, and mammals surprised at the least solemn moment. The contest also recognised the winners of categories like Thinktank Bird y Fotógrafo Júnior, reaffirming its commitment to discovering new talent.
Beyond the light-hearted tone, the awards maintain their underlying goal: to bring wildlife conservation closer to a wider audience through humour.
