Torrelodones turns a forgotten passageway into an open-air gallery
Anyone passing through the access to Sector 11 in Torrelodones now finds something different: the arches beneath the A-6 have ceased to be a neglected spot and have become a space with an identity. The urban-art intervention changes the perception of the site at first glance.
Ayuntamiento has promoted this intervention with the aim of recovering a passage widely used by residents and visitors. What was once a deteriorated setting now works as a small open-air gallery that invites people to stop, look and cross with a different feeling.
The project was developed with the Cultura y Urbanismo departments, with the participation of the Estudio Graffitti collective. The murals cover the large arches and provide colour, visual continuity and a more carefully considered image of the entrance.
Interventions of this kind are increasingly repeated in municipalities around Madrid, where urban art is used to improve passage spaces and give them a second life. It is not only aesthetics: it also changes how these places are used.
