Madrid clubs turn goals and points into help for children with cancer
In Madrid, more than a hundred football and basketball clubs turn every goal and every point into a donation for childhood cancer research, joining sport and help for children in one day.
More than 100 clubs have joined the charitable campaign of the Unoentrecienmil foundation, intended to support childhood cancer research. Next weekend, 14 and 15 February, the usual matches will become a way of helping: every goal and every point will become donations.
The campaign is being carried out simultaneously across the country and is dedicated to International Childhood Cancer Day. Every year, around 1 600 children are diagnosed with this disease in Spain, and the organisers seek to draw attention to the problem through sport.
In football, the foundation receives five euros for every goal scored, and in basketball, one euro for every point. Players, coaches and families take part in the initiative, creating a shared space of support and solidarity.
The funds raised will go towards scientific research studying the effect of physical activity on children's recovery during treatment. Registration for clubs remains open.
