The municipal markets celebrate Christmas with concerts, children's activities and illuminated facades
The municipal markets of Barcelona will once again become small festive hubs.
Between 12 and 20 December, nine markets in the city will offer concerts, family shows and activities designed to bring the Christmas atmosphere to neighbourhoods. All this will be accompanied, once again, by special lighting on their façades, reinforcing the role of these facilities as points of meeting and community life.
The programme will begin on 12 December at Mercat de la Concepció, which will open the music programme with a Boozan Dukes concert from 11:00 to 13:00. A day later, on Saturday the 13th, activity will multiply across three markets:
Provençals, with Gots de Tuba;
La Barceloneta, with a live performance by Gumbo Jazz Band;
Vall d’Hebron–Taxonera, where the company +Tumacat will enliven the morning with a children's show.
Music will return on 18 December to Mercat d’Hostafrancs with Gumbo Jazz Band, while on 19 December it will be the turn of Mercat de Canyelles, which will once again host Boozan Dukes.
The programme will culminate on 20 December, when the Trinitat, Sant Martí and Ciutat Meridiana markets will hold concerts by Gots de Tuba, Gumbo Jazz Band and the family show “De l’Hort al plat!”, respectively.
In addition, the 40 municipal markets are once again switching on their Christmas lighting, with notable new installations at the Vall d’Hebron and Clot markets.
As part of the festivities, the Institut de Mercats Municipals will also take part in the Festival de la Infancia (27–31 December) with its own space where workshops will be organised in collaboration with Mercabarna, AGEM, the municipal El Comerç i les Escoles programme and the Societat Catalana de Pediatria.
