Today is the deadline to apply for these grants in Alcalá de Henares

This Friday is the last day to apply for municipal grants aimed at improving personal autonomy in Alcalá de Henares. The call is open to elderly people, those who are dependent, or people with disabilities who need to adapt their homes or purchase products that will help them live more safely and independently.

This year, the programme introduces several new features to make it easier for more families to access support. Notable changes include raising the income limits and adding new eligible items for funding, such as lift chairs, home automation systems, adapted taps, or accessible communication software.

The budget for this call amounts to 65,000 euros, and applications will be assessed individually, taking into account each applicant’s personal, financial, and social situation. The aim is to support measures that help people remain in their homes and improve their quality of life.

To be eligible for this support, applicants must have been registered in Alcalá de Henares for at least one year, meet the established financial requirements, and provide proof of dependency, disability, or needs related to ageing. Eligible expenses must have been incurred between 1 September 2025 and 30 June 2026.

The support can be used for small home adaptations or for purchasing assistive products that make daily tasks easier. The goal is to reduce barriers within the home and help people maintain their independence for longer.

More and more municipalities are adopting this type of programme in response to an ageing population. Adapting homes and providing access to technical aids are seen as key tools to prevent dependency and avoid premature admission to residential centres.

Those who have not yet submitted their documentation must do so before the end of the day this Friday. Once the deadline has passed, the City Council will begin reviewing applications and then awarding support according to the criteria set out in the call.

Alcalá de Henares has been strengthening its policies to support older people and those with disabilities for years, focusing on measures that allow people to continue living safely in their own homes. These calls are part of a strategy to adapt the city to an increasingly older population and to promote more independent living in familiar surroundings.
