Barcelona Christmas lights 2025: time and when they are switched on

Barcelona is adorned with a mantle of lights in 2025, opening the Christmas season with an explosion of art and technology. On Thursday 22 November, Passeig de Gràcia will be transformed into a vibrant stage with “Solvern”, an innovative proposal that intertwines urban dance, rap and audiovisual effects, marking the beginning of a December full of charm and festivity.

Brava Arts, a Catalan company renowned for its major urban productions, signs the proposal alongside director Pep Anton Gómez, who deploys a dramatic structure designed to move audiences from the first second. Above, the Sacude company will trace impossible figures while suspended in the air, while the light creations of Australians Amigo & Amigo will envelop the avenue in a bright, almost sculptural universe.

Music plays an essential role: the original soundtrack composed by Dani López Pradas will sound, and, as the culminating moment, a forty-voice choir will bring to life Un cor que batega, Barcelona's official Christmas carol created by Irieix and Esteban Navarro. Its performance will set the rhythm for an event that seeks to celebrate the diversity and collective heartbeat of the city.

Among flying figures, flashes and an atmosphere of shared celebration, the public will discover a key detail: a button hidden in the stage design. Whoever activates it will unleash the magic and illuminate Passeig de Gràcia. And, through giant screens, it will be possible to follow simultaneously the switching on of the designer lights in Plaça Catalunya, Vía Laietana, Aragón, Gran Vía and Passeig de Sant Joan.

In Sant Jaume square, Christmas once again unfolds as a play of lights that converses with Barcelona's history. This year, the proposal takes a leap towards the sensory: Sinfonía de estrellas, a creation by Xavi Bové Studio, turns the two emblematic buildings in the square into living surfaces where architecture and the cosmos seem to breathe in unison.

The piece, delicate and enveloping, proposes a luminous cadence that works almost like a collective heartbeat. There are no stridencies: it is a soft, moving symphony that invites people to stop and look. On the nights of 24, 25 and 31 December, as well as 1 and 5 January, the work will change chromatically, celebrating the most symbolic moments of the Christmas calendar.

Lighting hours and new features

From 22 November until Three Kings' Day, Christmas lights will bathe the city in a festive glow, extending their brightness from 17:30 until 1:00 in the morning on working days, and until 2:00 during weekends and the eves of public holidays. This year, majestic LED light figures are being added at 23 key points, bringing 126 kilometres of lighting that will transform Barcelona's night.
