Nou Barris to renovate calle de la Jota to resolve accessibility issues near the Meridiana

The City Council is promoting the refurbishment of Calle de la Jota in Nou Barris. Work will begin in the third quarter of 2026. The project seeks to improve accessibility, lighting and services. It will coincide with the final stretch of the remodelling of Meridiana.

People who pass daily through the Vilapicina i la Torre Llobeta neighbourhood will soon notice an important change in their surroundings. Barcelona City Council has approved the awaited refurbishment of the final section of Calle de la Jota, a key road connecting with Meridiana Avenue that carries an intense flow of pedestrians and vehicles.

The intervention will focus on the section between Calle Pardo and Meridiana itself, an area that until now had suffered from accessibility and street-lighting problems. The council has set the start of the works for the third quarter of 2026, with an expected duration of five months and an investment of €626,000.

The aim is to adapt the street to new mobility needs and renew both materials and urban services. The work will coincide with the final phase of the Meridiana remodelling, allowing both projects to be coordinated and inconvenience to residents to be minimised.

The transformation of this section seeks not only to improve the experience of those who live or work in the area, but also to facilitate journeys and reinforce safety at one of the busiest access points in the Nou Barris district.

Meridiana Avenue, one of Barcelona’s main arteries, has undergone a profound transformation in recent years. Its remodelling has prioritised sustainable mobility, widening pavements, renewing street furniture and improving lighting. These actions have changed the relationship of the surrounding neighbourhoods with the road, encouraging neighbourhood life and pedestrian connectivity in the north of the city.
