Madrid opens bookings for free routes through its most distinctive corners

Madrid launches an irresistible cultural programme: from April until the end of June, the City Council is running Pasea Madrid with more than 350 free guided visits to landmark and less usual spaces. Registration opens from this Wednesday, 18 March (places are limited).

Five themed routes with suitable schedules:

- Paisaje de la Luz – Jardines del Buen Retiro

Mondays at 17:00 (also Wednesdays in June). The first Monday of each month: exclusively for older people.

- Paisaje de la Luz – Paseo del Prado (Cibeles to Emperador Carlos V)

Tuesdays at 17:00 (also Thursdays in June). At the end: free access to the Centro de Interpretación in Palacio de Cibeles. First Tuesdays: for older people.

- Frontón Beti Jai (a modernist jewel of Chamberí)

From 1 April to 28 June: Tuesday to Friday mornings, plus early weekends. From 19 May: extended opening hours. Thursdays at 12:00: exclusively for older people.

- Monumento a Alfonso XII (a unique viewpoint in Retiro)

Wednesday afternoons plus Saturday mornings (more slots in June). Wednesdays at 17:00: for older people.

- Búnker del Capricho (a Civil War shelter)

Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays at 11:00 and 12:00. Saturdays at 12:00: exclusively for older people.

Pasea Madrid turns the city into an open, free classroom: it allows thousands of Madrid residents and visitors to rediscover its hidden heritage (places such as Beti Jai or Búnker del Capricho are usually closed to the public), encourages local cultural tourism, enriches weekend leisure, and makes historic places accessible to older people and families. In a capital saturated with paid-for plans, this initiative makes culture accessible, strengthens local pride, connects generations and turns everyday walks into educational and surprising experiences.
