Madrid faces another day of intense heat with AEMET warnings
Madrid is once again experiencing a day marked by heat, with active warnings for temperatures that could approach 40 ºC in several parts of the Community. AEMET forecasts the most difficult hours between 13:00 and 20:59, precisely when the impact is felt most in journeys, outdoor work and open-air plans.
The areas at greatest risk will be Metropolitana, Henares-Madrid, Sur, Vegas and Oeste-Madrid. In these areas, thermometers may reach 39 ºC, with a particular likelihood in the Henares corridor, where the heat is usually felt more strongly during the middle of the day.
The forecast brings very high maximum temperatures in key municipalities. Madrid city and Navalcarnero may reach 38 ºC, Getafe 39 ºC, and Aranjuez and Alcalá de Henares could reach 40 ºC. Collado Villalba is expected to see 36 ºC, a somewhat lower figure but still demanding for those spending time outdoors.
The Sierra will also be watching the heat, albeit with a less intense warning. There, maximum temperatures may reach 36 ºC, enough to condition routes, sports activities and journeys in areas where many residents seek refuge during the harshest days.
The warning affects daily life directly. It is advisable to avoid physical exertion during the middle hours, carry water, seek shade and review the schedules of children, older people or those with chronic illnesses. In neighbourhoods with little tree cover or much asphalt, the apparent temperature may feel even more oppressive.
Friday could bring slight relief with a drop in maximum temperatures, but the heat will not disappear. Metropolitana, Sur, Vegas, Oeste and the lower areas of the Sierra will remain at high temperatures, so caution will continue to be necessary.
The forecast also adds some instability. Storm showers may appear, in some cases with hail and strong wind gusts, which may complicate outdoor plans and require watching the sky even after a very hot afternoon.
The day is a reminder of how much heat now organises part of the Madrid summer. It changes not only what clothes people wear or when they leave home: it also alters schedules, terraces, sport, transport and the way each neighbourhood seeks shade, water and more bearable spaces.
