Madrid re-enters the emergency phase due to high temperatures
Madrid has activated the Emergency Phase and Operational Situation 1 of the High Temperature Action Plan. The measure entails greater coordination among public services and requires extra precautions during the middle of the day.

The yellow warning has remained active across the whole Community since 13:00. The recommendations particularly affect those who work, play sport or spend long periods outdoors, as well as children, older people and people with chronic illnesses.
The authorities advise avoiding intense exercise and reducing unnecessary journeys when the heat reaches its highest levels. Walks, training sessions and sporting activities should be concentrated in the early morning or late afternoon.
Those who have to go out should wear light-coloured, lightweight clothing, protect their heads and carry water. Sunglasses and breathable footwear also help reduce exposure, although the main recommendation remains to seek shade and rest frequently.
The effect is already noticeable in parks, squares and terraces, where activity declines during the harshest hours. Many residents bring forward their shopping, delay walks and reorganise family plans to avoid staying in the sun for too long.
The situation also makes it necessary to pay closer attention to those who live alone or have difficulty getting around. Keeping in contact with vulnerable family members and neighbours, checking that they drink water and helping them keep their homes cool can prevent health problems.
Activating the emergency phase makes it possible to coordinate health services, Protección Civil and local councils in the event of possible incidents. The operation will remain alert for heatstroke, dehydration and any increase in pressure on care services.
The day leaves a slower city in the middle hours and a more active one when the sun goes down. Madrid maintains its routine, but adapts it to a temperature that makes it necessary to weigh up every walk, every journey and every outdoor plan.
