Madrid faces another day of extreme heat, up to 38 degrees and a yellow warning
Madrid begins the week under a yellow warning for high temperatures. Aemet is keeping the alert active this Monday 10 August from 12:00 to 21:00, with highs reaching 38 degrees in some parts of the Community.
The heat will be particularly intense in the Tagus valley and its tributaries. Alcalá de Henares and Aranjuez are among the places with the highest temperatures, with 38 degrees forecast, while Getafe will reach 37.
Madrid city will reach around 36 degrees, a temperature similar to that forecast in Navalcarnero. In the lower areas of the Sierra, conditions will be somewhat less extreme, although highs will remain elevated, between 34 and 35 degrees. Collado Villalba will be around 34.
The main difference from previous days will come during the night. Minimum temperatures will fall slightly in the centre and south of the region, although in Madrid city they will not drop below 22 degrees. In Navalcarnero, they could be around 18.
Winds will be light and variable for much of the day. During the middle hours, south-westerly winds will predominate and, towards the end of the afternoon, they will shift westerly, without sufficient change to significantly ease the feeling of heat.
The warning also comes in a week marked by very high temperatures across much of Spain. Forecasts keep values above 35 degrees in numerous areas and a very high risk of forest fires, especially in dry areas of the interior of the peninsula.
The most difficult period will again be concentrated between midday and late afternoon. Avoiding intense exercise during the middle hours, seeking cool places and paying particular attention to older people, children and people with chronic illnesses will be the most important precautions while the warning remains active.
