Madrid faces a strike by urban and intercity buses
A new union protest will disrupt road transport in the Community of Madrid next month. The CC. OO., UGT and SLT unions have called a strike affecting hundreds of urban and intercity routes, following what they see as a deadlock in negotiations over the sector's collective agreement. The aim is to demand better working conditions and denounce the deterioration of the public service which, they say, also affects users.
The strike will begin with two full days of stoppages, scheduled for Tuesday 30 April and Sunday 4 May, with a complete suspension of service for 24 hours. After that, the dispute will continue with eight additional days of partial stoppages, affecting the most sensitive times of day: from 5:00 to 9:00 in the morning and from 17:00 to 21:00 in the evening, specifically on 6, 8, 13, 15, 20, 22, 27 and 29 May. The interurban bus network of Madrid, with more than 300 lines in operation, transports over 900,000 people every day. As a result, significant disruption is expected, especially for journeys between municipalities and during peak hours. The trade unions have not ruled out extending the industrial action if there is no change in the negotiations. In the meantime, travellers are advised to plan ahead and stay informed about possible changes to the service.
