Madrid expands Colón to experience the World Cup final in the street

The giant screen installed by the Real Federación Española de Fútbol will remain in its current location. In addition, the City Council is considering installing a second screen facing Calle Génova, which would make it possible to distribute the public and improve visibility from different points.

The Plaza Selección venue has capacity for around 6,000 people, an insufficient figure for an event that may attract tens of thousands of fans to the city centre. The municipal aim is to extend the designated area along Colón, Paseo de la Castellana and the start of Génova.

The extension could make it necessary to close part of the traffic around the square. The final arrangements will depend on the installation of the second screen and on security measures, so traffic restrictions and changes to nearby bus routes are expected during the afternoon and night.

Spain will play the final on Sunday at 21:00, after beating France 2–0 in the semi-finals. Their opponent will come from the match between England and Argentina, which will decide the other finalist on Wednesday night.

Colón has already served during the tournament as a meeting point for supporters of the national team. The space has music, activities, food areas, an official shop and a trophy exhibition, in addition to live broadcasts of the matches.

pl will also once again have two screens on the esplanade at Puente del Rey. Added to these options is the Movistar Arena, although its 15,000 free tickets sold out shortly after going on sale.

Those planning to go to Colón should do so several hours in advance and use the Metro or Cercanías. Admission will be free until capacity is reached, but the extension does not guarantee entry if the area reaches its maximum capacity before the match begins.
