Madrid commits to a sustainable future with the renovation of the Laboratorio de Soluciones Urbanas

Madrid takes a firm step towards transforming its urban model by extending for three years the agreement for the Urban Solutions Laboratory (INNOLAB), a space for collaboration between the regional government, Fundación Metrópoli and the MWCC association. This agreement reflects a clear commitment to rethinking cities through a logic of real sustainability, technological innovation and energy efficiency. Since its creation in 2022, INNOLAB has become a meeting point for companies, institutions and experts seeking practical solutions to build cleaner, more liveable cities. With this renewal, the Community reaffirms its commitment to urban planning that not only responds to environmental challenges, but also creates employment and well-being for its citizens. The advances driven by INNOLAB speak for themselves: low-carbon-footprint cement, pavements that purify the air, buses powered by green hydrogen and urban developments such as the new Puerta de Madrid consortium in Leganés, which is born with sustainability criteria already in its DNA. All of this is framed in an open innovation strategy that promotes talent and public-private collaboration. One of the hallmarks of this new approach is the ambitious Madrid Nuevo Norte project, which envisages 10,500 homes and up to 350,000 jobs between construction and subsequent activity. Beyond the figures, this plan proposes a model of urban growth based on regeneration, efficient use of resources and the integration of low-environmental-impact solutions. In a region where the construction sector generates a third of CO2 emissions, initiatives such as INNOLAB are essential to advance towards the European goal of climate neutrality in 2050. Renewing the agreement is not merely a formality: it is a firm commitment to a smarter, more inclusive and resilient urban model, where Madrid wants to set the standard globally.
