Bus and bike travel will be free in Madrid on 7 and 8 April
Madrid will offer free public transport on 7 and 8 April after Semana Santa. EMT Madrid buses and the bicimad service will allow passengers to travel free of charge, a measure designed to make the return to routine easier and improve mobility in the city.
Free bus travel will be active from midnight on Tuesday until 23:59 on Wednesday, excluding the airport express line. Users must validate their usual travel pass or, if they do not have one, may obtain a free single ticket directly from the driver.
For its part, bicimad will offer free journeys of up to 30 minutes on the same days. This option reinforces bicycle use for short journeys, especially in central areas and neighbourhoods with a high density of stations.
The initiative has already been applied on other key dates in the calendar, with the aim of reducing car use and easing pressure on traffic at times of high demand.
The return after the holidays usually brings a concentration of increased journeys in the city, for both work and education, making these days a sensitive point for mobility.
For many Madrid residents, this measure means quicker and cheaper journeys just as the city returns to its usual rhythm. At the same time, it reinforces an increasingly visible trend: committing to more accessible and sustainable transport as part of everyday urban life.
