Madrid fills Book Day with free activities across the city
Madrid turns Book Day into an agenda full of free plans extending across the city. Activities in squares, libraries and cultural spaces turn reading into a collective experience that changes the week's usual rhythm.
One of the key venues will be Matadero Madrid, where on 23 April Meet & Read will take place, an open gathering to read and talk with others. The event combines individual reading and conversation, creating a more participatory format than usual.
The celebration continues on 24 April with the Noche de los Libros, which will bring activities to the whole region. Hundreds of events are expected in bookshops, libraries and cultural spaces, with authors, talks and activities designed for different audiences.
In addition, the LIBROMAD programme expands the offering with activities in more than 60 municipalities. Over several days there will be workshops, literary gatherings and routes that take books out onto the streets and bring reading to new spaces.
Public libraries are also joining in with storytelling and family activities, strengthening a programme that aims to reach all ages and backgrounds.
This initiative makes reading an accessible and visible option in the city. It encourages people to go out, spend time together and discover new cultural spaces at no cost, which appeals to those looking for different leisure alternatives in their daily lives.
