Madrid defines its 2026 public holidays: six long weekends for planning 3- and 4-day getaways
Next year's working calendar in the Community of Madrid includes 14 public holidays, 12 of which have already been set and two of which will be decided by local councils. The distribution of dates will allow Madrid residents to enjoy up to six long weekends spread between April, May, October and December.
Comunidad de Madrid has officially approved the 2026 work calendar, with a total of 12 confirmed regional public holidays and two local ones to be announced later. The most notable dates include Semana Santa, which this time falls on 2 and 3 April (Jueves y Viernes Santo), and 1 May (Día del Trabajo), which will offer a respite by falling on a Friday. However, other holidays such as 2 May (Fiesta de la Comunidad) and 15 August (Asunción) will be observed on a Saturday, reducing opportunities for extra rest.
The second part of the year will be more generous. 12 October, Fiesta Nacional, will fall on a Monday, while Todos los Santos will move to Monday 2 November. December will be the standout month for travellers, with a “long bank-holiday weekend” joining the moved Día de la Constitución (Monday 7) with Inmaculada Concepción (Tuesday 8), and with Christmas falling on a Friday in 2026.
Thus, Madrid’s 2026 calendar presents itself as a perfect opportunity to plan several-day getaways both within and outside Spain, taking advantage of the succession of strategically placed long weekends in the final stretch of the year.
