Madrid pushes the thermometer up to 40 degrees before the end of the week
Madrid will end the working week with another rise in heat and two particularly difficult days. After reaching around 38 degrees this Wednesday, the thermometer could rise to 40 on Thursday and remain close to 38 on Friday, with warnings for high temperatures.
This Wednesday, 12 August, the yellow warning remains active in the Metropolitana y Henares area until 21:00. The high in the capital will be around 38 degrees, while the low will barely fall below 24, bringing another very warm night.
Thursday 13 will be the toughest day of this stretch of the week. The maximum temperature may reach 40 degrees and Aemet raises the warning to orange between 13:00 and 21:00, with values of up to 39 degrees generally forecast in the metropolitan area and the Henares corridor.
The night will not offer much relief either. Lows will again stand at around 24 degrees, so much of Madrid will experience another tropical early morning, especially uncomfortable in the densest neighbourhoods and in homes with little ventilation.
Friday 14 will bring a slight fall, although not enough to speak of a change in the weather. The high will remain around 38 degrees and the orange warning will continue to be active between 13:00 and 21:00. The low could fall to 22 degrees.
Sunshine and dry conditions will continue to dominate the end of the working week, with no sign of significant relief before the August bank holiday. The middle hours of the day will once again concentrate the most dangerous temperatures, especially between early afternoon and the start of the evening.
With two consecutive days under an orange warning, it is advisable to reduce physical activity during the middle hours of the day, drink water frequently and seek out cool places. Older people, children and people with chronic illnesses will be the groups requiring the greatest caution during an episode that will take Madrid to 40 degrees before the end of the working week.
