Madrid parks go digital with interactive routes and free audio guides
Madrid is introducing new digital tools to rediscover its green spaces. From now on, landmark parks such as Parque del Retiro have free audio guides and interactive maps accessible by mobile phone.
The initiative, promoted by the City Council, covers 21 parks in the city and allows visitors to explore them with detailed information about their history, architectural features and plant species. These include Parque El Capricho, Quinta de los Molinos and Madrid Río.
The audio guides accompany visitors on their route and provide context for fountains, sculptures and little-known corners, offering a more complete experience without the need for organised visits. The interactive maps, meanwhile, make it possible to locate points of interest and tailor the walk to individual preferences.
Access is simple: users only need to scan the QR codes located at the main entrances. No app download is required, and the content is available in several languages, making it easier for both residents and visitors to use.
The tool is especially useful in large parks, where finding one’s way can be complicated. It also adds an informative layer that turns an ordinary walk into a more enriching experience.
The introduction of technology responds to a growing trend in cities: making historic and natural spaces more accessible without altering their essence. Madrid thus reinforces the value of its parks as places for meeting, learning and outdoor leisure.
