Madrid promotes arts education with a new programme and musical groups
Madrid is backing art in classrooms with an innovative educational programme from the regional government that incorporates choir and percussion to transform arts education in the Community.
The Comunidad de Madrid has given the green light to a new Programa Educativo de Actividades Artísticas, approved this week by the Consejo de Gobierno. This measure aims to strengthen arts education in the region’s schools and increase students’ interest in disciplines such as music and the performing arts.
The programme, aimed at students, teachers, families, and alumni, seeks to broaden the educational offering and make artistic practice a key learning tool. This was announced by the regional government, which emphasises the importance of integrating these activities into school life.
The decree allows the Consejería de Educación, Ciencia y Universidades to create new activities within the programme. It also regulates the organisation and operation of the Coro de Niños y Jóvenes of the Comunidad de Madrid and the new Agrupación de Percusión. Among the regulated aspects are admission criteria, internal structure, and the aims of each group.
The Coro de Niños y Jóvenes was created as a pedagogical project to facilitate access for young people in Madrid to high-quality vocal and artistic training. For its part, the Agrupación de Percusión will offer its members a group musical experience, encouraging teamwork and creative development through percussion instruments.
