New aid in Madrid to replace your car: up to €4,000 if you choose electric
Changing cars in Madrid can now be considerably cheaper. The City Council has launched new aid of up to €4,000 for vehicles with a Zero label and €2,000 for Eco models, in a plan already under way that seeks to speed up the withdrawal of the most polluting cars.
The programme, part of Cambia 360, excludes vehicles with a C label and focuses on cleaner options. It also offers an extra of up to 1,500 euros if you hand in an old car for scrapping, including for the first time some with a B label.
The budget allocated to private individuals alone amounts to 14 million euros. And there is a key point: these grants can be combined with other national or regional programmes, which can considerably increase the final discount when buying an electric or hybrid car.
Applying for them is a digital and fairly quick process. It is done through the City Council website and they are awarded in order of application, so time favours those who act first. The deadline is already open and, in principle, will remain so until 20 May or until the funds run out.
Beyond the saving, the objective is clear: to reduce the presence of old cars in the city and facilitate mobility with fewer restrictions. In a context of low-emission zones and changes to traffic, this type of grant indicates the direction Madrid is taking in the coming years.
