Madrid boosts aid to protect private woodland against extreme events by 64%

The Community of Madrid has decided to strengthen the protection of its private forests by increasing maintenance aid by 64%. This measure seeks to improve the resilience of forest ecosystems against extreme weather events, pests, diseases and fires.
At present, two out of every three hectares of Madrid's forest area belong to private owners. Economic support is therefore essential to guarantee conservation and risk prevention in these natural spaces.
The good condition of forests is considered the best barrier against threats such as fires or diseases. With this increase in aid, the Community of Madrid aims to ensure that owners have the resources needed to keep their land in optimum condition and thereby protect the region's natural heritage.
