Madrid prepares a unique New Year's Eve in Sol with DJs and Edurne live

Madrid is preparing to bid farewell to the year with a special celebration in Puerta del Sol, where music and security will take centre stage. The emblematic space will host the traditional pre-New Year’s Eve celebrations on Tuesday, enlivened by the Dream Team of DJs Quique Tejada and Toni Peret, while singer Edurne will be responsible for setting the pace on New Year’s Eve, 31 December. Both events have the backing of Kiss FM and authorisation from Madrid City Council.

Municipal spokesperson Inma Sanz has confirmed that the security operation will be the usual one of recent years. The plan includes the prior evacuation of Puerta del Sol and controlled access with security checks to prevent dangerous objects from entering. The maximum permitted capacity will be 15,000 people, a figure slightly lower than the previous year. Authorities recommend arriving in advance and using public transport to avoid crowds.

In addition to the celebration in the centre, the Hortaleza district will hold its own pre-New Year’s Eve celebrations in the Jardines de Huerta de la Salud, with a performance by Alopeke. Residents are invited to bring 12 grapes or any other food in the same quantity to take part in the tradition.

The City Council has warned of significant traffic restrictions. On 30 December, Puerta del Sol will be evacuated at 21:00 and reopen at 22:00 with controlled access. On the 31st, closures will intensify because of the San Silvestre Vallecana, affecting major roads such as Concha Espina, Serrano, Alcalá, Cibeles, Paseo del Prado, Avenida de la Albufera and Candilejas. The restrictions will be in force from 30 December at 15:00 until the 31st at 23:59.
