Police and medical services activate a special plan for the cup final in Madrid
Madrid is preparing for a high-tension night for the Copa del Rey final. Although the match is being played in Seville, Madrid City Council has activated a special operation in view of a possible celebration should Atlético de Madrid lift the title.
The operation will focus on two key points: the Fuente de Neptuno, the usual site of rojiblanco celebrations, and the Riyadh Air Metropolitano, where screens will be installed to follow the match. The forecast includes around 300 municipal police officers and around 30 healthcare staff over the weekend.
At the busiest times, the deployment will include ambulances and additional reinforcements to guarantee safety. The plan is flexible and will be adjusted according to how the night and the fans' response develop.
The city council insists that the aim is to prevent incidents and facilitate a safe celebration. In the event of a victory, the institutional celebration would move to Plaza de la Villa.
The city is thus preparing for a day that may transform its usual rhythm.
