More controls and restrictions in Madrid during Semana Santa

The City Council will deploy 1,500 Policía Municipal officers and 250 Samur-Protección Civil medical staff, with special attention to key areas such as Puerta del Sol and calle Mayor, where some of the largest processions take place.

The operation will remain in place until 5 April and will include traffic controls, surveillance in leisure areas, and measures to prevent theft. In addition, there will be reserved spaces for the public and adapted access for people with reduced mobility.

There will also be restrictions on heavy vehicles in the city centre, aimed at facilitating the processional routes and improving safety at the busiest points.

Semana Santa is one of the busiest times in the centro de Madrid, where tradition, tourism, and urban life come together in the same space.
