Madrid will give young mothers up to €14,500 per child
Young mothers in the Community of Madrid will be able to receive up to €14,500 per child with the expansion of birth-rate support. The regional benefit is being strengthened in 2026 and seeks to support those who decide to start a family in a context marked by the high cost of housing, raising children and everyday life.
The main benefit consists of €500 a month per child. It can be received from week 21 of pregnancy and continues until the child turns two, adding up to a maximum of 29 monthly payments if received throughout the full period.
The measure also applies in cases of adoption and forms part of a broader package of support for birth rates. The Community will raise the budget allocated to these policies to €125.5 million in 2026, after recording an increase in births in the region.
To access the regional benefit, several requirements must be met. The mother must be no older than 30 at the time of application, have legal residence in Spain, be registered in the Community of Madrid and not exceed the established income limits.
Those limits stand at €30,000 a year for individual taxation and €36,200 for joint taxation. In addition, a minimum period of registration in the region is required, a condition intended to direct the assistance to families with roots in Madrid.
In the capital, the City Council also adds its own birth or adoption assistance. The municipal call provides one-off payments of €500 for the first child, €750 for the second and €1,000 for the third or subsequent children, compatible with the regional benefit.
Unlike the regional assistance, the municipal one requires neither an income limit nor an age limit. The main requirement is to be registered in the city of Madrid and for the birth or adoption to fall within the period set by the call, which broadens its reach to families with very different profiles.
These benefits do not by themselves solve the cost of raising children in Madrid, but they can ease the first years, when spending on care, housing, food, transport and work-life balance is concentrated. In a region where starting a family increasingly requires more financial planning, every support counts.
