Madrid accelerates its digitalisation with more services and users
Madrid is accelerating its digital transformation, and the change can already be felt in the everyday lives of its residents. More than one million people use Cuenta Digital to access public services quickly, in a model intended to reduce bureaucracy and simplify procedures.
Institutional momentum is being strengthened through new technology partnerships. President Isabel Díaz Ayuso has visited Samsung's new space in Alcobendas, a symbol of a strategy that places Madrid among Europe's leading digital hubs.
Digitalisation translates into concrete changes. At present, 277 public services are available through Cuenta Digital, from benefits to administrative procedures. According to the regional Government, processing time has been reduced by around 60%, making processes easier that previously required multiple in-person procedures.
Artificial intelligence is beginning to be integrated into this system. More than a thousand procedures are already handled automatically, including applications related to housing or dependency. In healthcare, the virtual health card and technology projects applied to diagnosis are moving towards a more agile and connected model.
The digital ecosystem also extends to security and training. Initiatives such as Digitaliza Madrid or the regional cybersecurity plan seek to ensure data protection, while programmes such as Aula Digital have trained thousands of citizens in technological skills.
This growth also boosts the economy. Madrid has more than 20,000 technology companies and around 350,000 workers in the sector, consolidating an environment that attracts international investment and talent.
More and more procedures can be completed from a mobile phone in a few minutes. Fewer queues, less paperwork and faster access to benefits and services. Digitalisation is no longer the future: it is beginning to change how you deal with the administration.
