Madrid prepares for the major Easter long weekend in April 2026

The Community of Madrid is facing the start of the year with no public holidays in sight. After the farewell to the Three Kings and the end of Christmas, Madrid residents will have to wait until April to enjoy another break in the working calendar.

6 January 2026 was the last regional public holiday, marked by the Three Kings tradition throughout Spain. Under the current rules, 14 non-recoverable public holidays are guaranteed each year, nine of which are national and cannot be replaced. Three more can be modified by autonomous communities, while the remaining two are left to town councils for local celebrations.

The next major long weekend will come with Easter Week. Thursday 2 and Friday 3 April will be public holidays in Madrid, allowing many people to enjoy four consecutive days off. A perfect opportunity to switch off or leave the city.

2 April: Maundy Thursday

3 April: Good Friday

1 May: Labour Day, Friday

2 May: Community of Madrid Day, Saturday

15 May: San Isidro, Friday, only in the capital

After Easter Week, Madrid’s calendar offers another respite in May. Labour Day, 1 May, falls on a Friday, followed by Community of Madrid Day on Saturday 2. In addition, residents of the capital can celebrate San Isidro on Friday 15 May, adding another long weekend to their agenda.
